My good friend and long time creative partner hair dresser Sonia Park-Howie (of Taylor and Taylor shoreditch) Is the sort of person who is always getting involved in weird and wonderful projects so I was pleased but not surprised when she invited me to help out with an interactive theatre piece that she was performing in. The Piece in question was the brain child of Malgosia Orlinska (above) and was based on a Chinese legend that says that the gods tie a red chord around the wrists of those who are destined to meet and help each other in some way, however the imagary of the pice was based on tradtional russian/eastern eauropean artwork as Malgosia is of Polish decent and was also keen to explore the idea of the red string as a bloodline tying you to your ancestors and heritage. So how do you bring all these ideas together and turn them into an interactive perforamace? Well I was lucky enough to be one of the first participants, I was lead into a room hung with bare bulbs and large sheets of typed text creating a cave like effect and was handed a hoop and invited to follow it along a red chord dodging various obstacles along the way until I reached a small boudior at the back where I met my 'soul mate' another particpant who had been following her hoop along thee other end of the red chord. Malgosia appeared looking every inch the high priestess and invited us to tie a piece of red chord around each others wrists as a memento of the experience. Overall I thought it was an interesting idea, beautifully set and performed in whimsicall and dreamlike manner. - Not your usual sunday evening. I cant wait to see what Malgosia and co. come up with next, if this was anything to go by I'm sure it will be well worth a visit!
The event was held at Husk Creative space in Limehouse
